The Design of the USB Disks
Your specially designed disks are made up of two parts. An USB Drive to keep your data and a CD-ROM Drive to recover your menu. Your USB Disk includes PortableApps Menu, preloaded with a number of open source portable software, to keep your data organized and to provide you lots of functionality. CD-ROM Drive is read-only and designed to recover your menu.

What is a Portable App?
A portable app is a computer program that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any Windows computer. When your USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod or other portable device is plugged in, you have access to your software and personal data just as you would on your own PC. And when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind.

Software packages listed below are for informative purposes only. Please note that we do not produce, develop, maintain these packages. Composition of your disk may be different and your disk may not have every listed package.
7-Zip Portable – File archiver and compressor
7-Zip Portable is the popular 7-Zip packaged as a portable app, so you can take your file archiver with you and work with your compressed 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, RAR files and more on the go. You can place it on your USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive or a CD and use it on any computer, without leaving any personal information behind.
GIMP Portable

How to Install New PortableApps
You can always extend the functionality of your USB disk by installing new portable applications. An updated list of portable applications can be obtained from http://portableapps.com/apps
How to Uninstall Existing Portable Apps
Simply delete the folder of your portable application from the PortableApps folder of your USB Disk. To delete an imaginery portable application, DreamApp, you should delete the folder named “{DISK_DRIVE}:\PortableApps\DreamApps”. Then refresh your application list by clicking Options>Refresh App Icons on the menu.
Ejecting Your Disk
First close all your open documents that are located the USB Disk. Then close your open portable applications. Finally close the menu application. Then left click on the Safely Remove USB Devices icon on your taskbar and select your disk (always listed along with the CD-ROM drive associated with it).
Restoring Your Menu
If you accidentally delete your menu application simply eject the disk and plug it in again. The menu should restore itself automatically. If auto-run is disabled in your computers locate the CD-ROM drive associated with your USB Disk. Double click on “launcher.exe”. Please note that only the menu application and the backup utility can be recovered. You should manually back-up your files.

Starting Your Menu
If autorun is disabled on your computer just open your disk and double click on the “StartPortableApps.exe” Your menu should start immediately.

Trouble Shooting
1. Can’t stop & eject the USB Disk
Try to close all open documents, your portable applications and the menu application before ejecting your USB Disk. If you opened an Excel or Word (or any other office) document from your disk try to close Excel or Word applications as well. Sometimes they can not close temporary documents associated with your document on the USB Disk.
2. Can’t start Firefox Portable, another instance is already running
Firefox application is not configured to allow multiple instances. Although possible, it is not recommended to run Portable Firefox with normal Firefox at the same time because the application can not decide which one is portable. So your search history, private data and cookies can be shared among the hard disk and USB Disk. Simply close the running Firefox instance and start your portable instance to work around this problem
3. Updating/Removing Adobe Flash Player plug-in for Firefox Portable
Latest version of the player is loaded directly into the plugins folder of your Portable Firefox application. However if you already have Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Flash Player installed in your computer and would like to use a the version of flash player located in your computer simply delete “{DISK_DRIVE}:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plugins\NPSWF32.DLL”. Then restart Portable Firefox.
To update the plash player version on your USB Disk open “%WINDOWS_HOME%\system32\Macromed\Flash” folder. Copy “NPSWF32.DLL” over “{DISK_DRIVE}:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plugins\NPSWF32.DLL”. Then restart Portable Firefox.
